First place winner of the International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest from Turkey

The results of the International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest, which has attracted a great deal of attention and aims to raise awareness and facilitate the public and especially youth to think about this important issue, were announced. 510 participants from 65 countries participated in the contest with a total of 1,225 caricatures, of which Ismail Büken from Turkey won first place. The works that are awarded in the competition will be exhibited during the Green Crescent Week.

Applications for the International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest, which was organized for the first time this year, have been completed. 510 participants from 65 countries, including the USA, Brazil, Mexico, European countries, Indonesia, China, Australia and the Middle East, applied to the contest with 1,225 works bringing together addictions and the art of caricature. The artists aimed to target the portrayal of drugs, tobacco, alcohol, technology, gambling addiction, as well as the damage caused by dependencies on human beings and society.

The first place winner of the International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest is İsmail Büken from Turkey. Ilya Katz from Israel, Bahman Jalali Nokandeh from Iran, Luc de Scheemaeker from Belgium, Silvano Melo from Brazil, and Andrei Popov from Russia were the other winners. The results of the International Green Crescent Cartoon Contest were determined by the jury including Prof. Peyami Çelikcan, the Dean of the İstanbul Şehir University Communications Faculty and the Green Crescent Scientific Board Member, the Caricaturists Association President Mr. Metin Peker, Caricaturist Asst. Prof. Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu and Caricaturist Muhittin Köroğlu. The first place winner will be awarded $ 3000, and five other successful participants will be awarded $ 500 and a plaque of achievement.

Prizes and Exhibition during the Green Crescent Week

The jury members convened at the Green Crescent Headquarters located at the Basketmakers' Kiosk on January 13th 2017 and judged the award winning works based on artistic quality (25 points), humorous direction (25 points) and strength of social and cultural impact related to daily life (50 points). Works that became finalists will also be exhibited during the Green Crescent Week.
